Time for a new book review. Woo hoo! I just finished The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls last week while I was in South Carolina. (oh yeah, side note: I went to visit David! sorry Clemson folks, I wasn't anywhere near you guys and it was a very packed trip. Hope you're all still my friends!) The story is the memoir of the author as she grew up with two very interesting parents and how she ultimately overcame challenges in her upbringing to become a successful writer. All I can say is...go out right now, find a copy of this book, and read it. It was extraordinary, and makes my life look like a vacation. She is very honest in the book, but never self-pitying or melodramatic. The book made me laugh out loud, groan in despair, and seethe with anger, all the time rooting for Jeannette and her siblings.
I was about to type that the book was "inspiring," and I suppose it is, but without meaning to be. Again, the author is very honest, and her candor is obviously appreciated, but I think what she meant to do with this book was not shock an audience but come to grips with her own past. I cannot say enough good things about this book. Go read it!
