So, last Thursday me and some of the other girls in my program went to the Museum of Fine Arts b/c it's free on Thursdays! (For those of you who don't know, I am one of six in my program this year, all of us are girls. There are seven in the year above us, including a boy! males are rather rare in the genetic counseling field...)
Anyway, I kind of got separated from the group (I like to wander in museums) and I was looking at this fabulous pointillism painting when this girl named Emily came up and asked if she could take my picture for a project called "100 Strangers." Apparently, the goal is to take pictures of 100 total strangers (oddly enough) to improve your portrait-taking skills. Of course I said yes! so, for those interested, here is the link to the picture of me in the museum. Apparently I am stranger #3 for Emily...
love you all!

The Great Unknown: Texas
So! Exactly one week ago, my father and i set out from memphis and drove 11 hours (stopping only for gas, mind you) to Houston Tx, my new home. It's been a craaazy week trying to get settled, but i think i've done pretty well. I've met the five other girls in my program, and they're all awesomely awesome. My apartment is beyond cool. The city is a literal treasure trove of adventure, what with libraries, odd restaurants, and public transportation to be explored. I've even begun to participate in a church (thanks for the recommendation, Stuart!)
All in all, it's been a good experience for me so far. definitely lots to learn, but i feel a great swell of excitement from living in a new city all by myself.
more updates along the way...once i get internet access in my apartment (my next battle).

What the heck...?
So, yesterday Bernie Mac died. Not only that, but he died of complications of pneumonia. Not to be disrespectful at all, but...pneumonia? What is this, the Oregon Trail? Ah well, it was sad. Rest in peace, Ocean's 11 man.
Then, TODAY, I find out that Isaac Hayes died! Apparently he was found dead by his family, lying next to a still-running treadmill. Very mysterious. Rest in peace, Shaft man.

The Olympics
Okay, I have to admit: I've always been a huge fan of the summer Olympics. I love watching all the random sports (ie, women's handball, which I'm currently watching) and the well-known ones. I love seeing all the countries on our planet. I love the feeling of patriotism when Team USA does awesomely. I even love the cheesy inspiring Visa commercials with the Morgan Freeman voice overs.
But my FAVORITE part of the Olympics is the Opening ceremonies. I adore all the ceremony and national pride of the host nation as they invite the rest of the world to join them for this awesome event. Last night was the opening ceremony in Beijing. I cannot describe the absolutely stunning performance of the ceremonies. It was, quite simply, the most beautiful thing I have ever seen in my entire life. Over 15,000 performers delivered perfect execution of dancing, painting, drumming, and singing that traced the history of China. If you missed it...I truly pity you.
I can't find any decent pictures of the ceremony to put up here. Sorry :( .
